Savings on Food
General saving on food
Plan in advance and make note of the food you require to purchase. Always try buying in bulk rather than purchasing from small grocery shop. Buying in bulk gives you good quality and cut down in prices on food purchase.
Always Make a grocery list and stick to it. Buy what you really need. Food shopping with a list helps in spending much less money. And could save hundreds of dollars annually, Instead of buying grocery without the list.
Prepare your own meals, if you can.
Cut down on buying mineral water bottles and Make your own filtered water by buying a water filter. This could save lots of pennies.
Bring lunch to school or work instead of buying it. If buying lunch at work costs $5-$10, but making lunch at home costs only $2-$3. Annual savings: $1,500.
Eat cereal rather than fast food. It’s good for health and cheaper too.
Use fresh beans cook and freeze them in air tight container or ziplock bags. You will get double quantity then canned beans.
Use coupons from news papers and magazines at grocery stores. Buy cheap food coupons on eBay.
Stock up required grocery when it is on sale with long term expiry date.
Don’t buy what you already have. Why purchase Tupperware, for example, if you have access to plastic Earth Balance tubs.Don’t recycle a plastic lunch bag after just one use. Rinse it out and use it again.
Don’t buy prepackaged cheese or meat. Go to the deli and have them slice it for you. You can get more for you money.
Buy whole roasted chickens. When you have used all the meat, throw the bones into a soup.
If you buy soda, buy 2 liter bottles instead of cans. It’s much cheaper per unit price.
You can save hundreds of dollars a year by shopping at lower-priced food stores. Convenience stores often charge the highest price.
You will spend less on food if you shop with a list, take advantage of sales, and purchase basic ingredients, rather than pre-packaged components or ready-made items.
If you use branded things, spend a little time clipping and using coupons. $1.50 invested in the Sunday newspaper could save you $20 or more at the checkout. Organize the coupons by type, so as you develop a shopping list you can make a notation if you have a coupon.
You can save hundreds of dollars annually by shopping at lower-priced food stores. Convenience stores often charge the highest price.
Choose the item which you want to buy and compare it with all the stores nearby. you can use store flyers to compare prices and also add merchandise coupons. Don’t throw away your money just because it is your habit to shop at a certain store.
Store brands and generics are almost similar quality, but generic are less expensive. You can consider generics brand and can save almost 10% in comparison.
Join clubs at school and take advantage of free food at meetings.
You can save hundreds of dollars a year by comparing price-per-ounce or other unit prices on shelf labels. Stock up on those items with low per-unit costs.
You will spend less on food if you shop with a list, take advantage of sales, and purchase basic ingredients, instead of pre-packaged components or ready-made items.
When you eat out, share meals. Most restaurant meals are big enough for two people.
If you don’t have someone to share it with, split the meal and half and put when half in a to-go box for next day’s lunch.
Skip the soda when you go out to eat, and drink water.
Save on Fruit
Buy small apples and oranges instead of the larger ones for kids’ snacks and lunches. They are easier for little hands to grasp and there is less waste — especially with apples because my kids can’t usually eat all of those monster-sized apples.
Kids sometimes have a “thing” about eating bananas that have very brown skins — no matter how much you try to convince them that the inside is still good. For school lunches, peel the banana at home and put the pieces in a sealed plastic bag. If they never see the brown peels they won’t waste the banana.
Save on Coffee
» Instead of using new coffee everytime, reuse the coffee grounds. you can save 20-30% of new coffee.
» Save a substantial amount of grounds without significantly affecting the taste by using the grounds twice. Just add a small amount of new coffee to the old grounds.
» Use a permanent filter instead of paper filters.so that You can store the used grounds in the refrigerator until the next day.
» Freezing the coffee grounds lets them go stale at a far slower rate, and sealing coffee in double plastic freezer bags ensures even longer freshness.
» Buy Coffee/Espresso Maker and save money if you or your family member buy coffee from outside shop everyday. look for the best deal before purchasing Coffee/Espresso Maker
» Only make what you use. If you find yourself with excess coffee in the pot, make less.
Save on Milk
» We found that the mik price per gallons are higher in grocery stores but less cheaper near gas station shops. We realized this differences as we visited dfferent state. You can also find the same differences ….is there something wrong trying it yourself in your city.
» The milk prices always varies so its better to check all the stores near by and select the milk with best price as they are not the same .you can also check near the town shop as the milk price increase in the shop you buy as prices change from time to time.
» Alternative for milk is,powdered milk as it has similar taste if prepared at least 10 to 12 hours before to match the regular milk and you can save more than $5 atleast on 2 gallons.this is more useful to those who have large family n for them who consume mor milk.
» You can also buy a gallon of milk at best price in your favourite shop and you can add a few cups of milk to the powered milk (fat free) you had made this gives the milk good and rich texture as regular milk, you can use whole milk or 2% fat milkwhich is best.
» Do you know that u can store milk as u store vegetable yes u have to freeze it. you can freeze the milk specially skim milk when its on sale so u donot have to pay more when the prices are high.when you freeze it make sure that the gallon is little empty or has space to avoid the chances if bursting it.As every one knows fresh milk is best but you can try atleast once ma you like it.
» Check for all brands and their prices! All stores have atleast 2 to 3 brands of milk and the price also vary some are cheaper and some expensive as their taste is 90% similar you can also try.
» All eatable items have expiration dates ,so for milk and other food items check their expiration date to avoid waste of money spended on things that expired to soon.
» If your family consumes more milk than you can buy a gallon of milk which has soon expire date and yes you can ask for discount from the store manager, this saves your few penny.
» If milk kept for several days or a week after opening you may get a little sour smell from the top of the gallon instead of that the milk inside is fine, but incase if the milk has become sour to donot throw it you can use that milk in any baking purposes.
» For other Diary Products- you can use the same tips for cheeses, yogurts, sour cream and other dairy products.so you can stock up all ur favorite food when its on sale in the stores.
» DO YOU KNOW ? that cheese freezes very well and it does. So you can stock up your favorite packages when its on sale and when its over till the time it may come on sale again.
Save on Bread
» There is not a thing wrong with day-old bread, yet the grocery stores usually sell it for 10-50 cents less. See if your store has a regular rack for day old breads, rolls, and donuts from the bakery. If you have a freezer, stock up. I buy 2-4 loaves of garlic bread and 4-6 bags of rolls on almost every shopping trip and stash them in our freezer.
Hint: If you use the microwave to defrost bread, take it out of its plastic wrapper, wrap it in a napkin, and defrost for only 30-45 seconds at a time — checking after each session. This will help avoid those hard edges that microwaves create on overcooked bread products.
» Bake your own bread. It doesn’t take much hands-on time and can save your about $3 a loaf. For a married couple, that adds up to $156 in a year.
» Long term planing and If you and your family eat bread every day then you can buy baking bread machine
